Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business

Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends

Sixth Month 8, 2014

Attending:  9

6.1  The meeting opened with a period of worship.

6.2  Nominating Committee Recommendation:  Nominating Committee recommends the addition of Bill Noyce to the Budget Committee.  Friends approved.

6.3  Kakamega Care Centre:  Youth Religious Education Committee will be collecting items for the Kakamega AIDS Orphanage through June 29.  We will also be sending a picture of Meeting members and attenders, a blouse and a letter to our sponsored child, Christine.

6.4  Landscaping:  We are appreciating the landscaping efforts that folks put in last Sunday.  The outside of the Meetinghouse looks lovely.

6.5  Contact List Maintenance:  Ministry & Counsel Committee report: according to our privacy policy all attenders need to give permission for their information to be included on the contact list.  Committee members will be contacting attenders to see if they wish to be included on the e-mail list and/or the contact list.

6.6  Contact List Removal Policy:  Friends requested that Ministry & Counsel propose a policy on removing people from the contact list.

6.7  Finance Committee Report:  for fiscal year ending May 31st, 2014:  Our total income is $23,641.19; total expense is $23,961.19; net income is -$320.00.

The electricity line is more than budgeted as the boiler malfunction required us to use space heaters and the oven has been left on.  The mulch is not included but will be posted to the grounds line.

There is $3,225 in unrestricted funds available.

Most regular donors have already been able to increase their monthly contributions.

6.8  Meetinghouse internet:  Fairpoint reports that their central office is too far away to offer a DSL connection in the Meetinghouse.  Comcast's technician surveyed the building and estimates that it would cost $200 to install Internet, and then $70-80/month thereafter.  We are also investigating having a smart phone that could be used as a tether.

It would be useful to be able to communicate with the heating system to get alerts and perhaps remotely adjust the thermostat.

Friends would like for those interested try to get together and develop a proposal for the next meeting for business.  Ruth Heath will convene this group.

6.9  Landline Telephone:  Friends approved discontinuing the landline phone.

6.10  Photograph Policy:  Adding photos to the website home page would increase its attractiveness.  Suggestions:

  • a banner picture of the community enjoying each other,
  • a re-enactment of worship in our beautiful meeting space,
  • children and teachers in the classroom,
  • potluck meals.

Our photograph policy is that we will get written permission from parents before posting photos of children, and to let adults know that their picture may be posted and allow them to opt out.

6.11  Window Opening Guidelines:  Friends would like for Ministry & Counsel to consider guidelines for the opening and closing of windows during meeting for worship.

6.12  The meeting closed with a period of grateful worship.
