The Crisis in Yemen, Hunger Ward Showing this Weekend

Rob Yager has written to share this info received from a (F)/friend

Dear Friends:

Some of you asked if there might be other showings of Hunger Ward, the powerful documentary about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Yes, there will be two, each followed by a pre-recorded panel discussion involving Yemenis now living in the United States and a staff member of the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL). The flier attached clarifies the details, but I will also indicate the times now: Friday, March 25 at 8:00 p.m. EDT and Sunday, March 27 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

While the world's attention is riveted on the crisis in Ukraine, similarly devastating attacks against the Yemeni people have been waged for the last several years. Literally thousands of people have died in Yemen, either from direct military fire or from disease and starvation brought on by the war, including a blockade stopping humanitarian aid from reaching Yemen. Without U.S. assistance in the maintenance of Saudi warplanes and a stronger effort to convince the Saudis to end the blockade, many more will die.

While the Hunger Ward documentary is horrifying, it may have the effect of encouraging its American viewers to increase pressure on Congress and the President to address this crisis more effectively. I invite you to spend 39 minutes watching this film and then to visit the panel discussion immediately following. All this can be done on Zoom at these links:

Friday, March 25, 2022. 7:45 (open), 8:00 (film) p.m.: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88091394508?pwd=Z00xemdTK3k2SmpZb2dxSVJIMldEZz09

OR

Sunday, March 27, 2022. 3:45 (open), 4:00 (film) p.m.: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83606948856?pwd=Mk9xSzdmNDB4TG1ranRJUnNiUnk3dz09

I thank you in advance for considering this opportunity to see Hunger Ward.

Sincerely,

Paul Graseck

Ever Heard of NHIPL? Conference April 9.

Ruth joined this organization's board, NH Interfaith Power and Light, last year, and she has been quite active in assisting their efforts to help houses of worship get to carbon neutral.

The public is invited to their all-day conference on Saturday, April 9, at the UU church in Concord. It will be a nuts-and-bolts conference on how to green our New Hampshire houses of worship and faith communities. It's intended to be both a practical learning opportunity and a way to network with like-minded people of faith from around the state. Conference sessions will include facility energy audits, energy efficiency improvements, solar power options, greening our households, and success stories of NH faith communities. For more information and to register for the conference (in person or on Zoom) click here

Ukraine Relief

Dear Friends,

I have just now had a Zoom conversation with a Friend in Poland whose meeting is joining with others there in providing direct respite and goods to those fleeing the Ukraine. I asked what we could do from here and he said that financial support would be the quickest avenue for our help to make an impact. I am gathering more details from him, and can give more information about this Friend and his meeting's efforts. I will be taking advantage for this way to help personally, and welcome any of you to contact me about joining this effort.

Pray for Peace,

Kathi

Concord Coalition to End Homelessness (CCEH) SouperFest Fundraiser

CCEH is thrilled to announce SouperFest 2022; A gathering to enjoy Concord’s most sought-after soups, while raising awareness of CCEH’s invaluable work.

Use this link to order your soup.

This year, eight of Concord’s finest eateries are preparing their most sought-after soup for you to pre-order for this take-out event. The eight eateries and the soup that they will prepare for SouperFest are: The Barley House (Pumpkin Apple Bisque); Col’s Kitchen (Chili); The Common Man (House Clam Chowder); Concord Food Co-op (Hungarian Mushroom Ale); Hermanos Cocina Mexicana (Vegetarian Chili); O Steaks & Seafood (Corn and Bacon Chowder); Revival Kitchen and Bar (Mushroom, Beef and Barley); and The Works Café (Lentil Soup).

Although this is a takeout event, weather permitting, guests are encouraged to bring a chair and have a spring picnic in the park. Each soup is 8 oz. and must be ordered in advance, online for a $5 donation. The CCEH website also contains full event details. Soup quantities are limited and available on a first come basis by pre-ordering only at the CCEH website. Due to limited supply, many soups will likely sell out again before the event, so day-of, walk-up purchases may be very limited, or not available.

Small Groups Continue

The book group formerly on Thursday mornings has moved to Tuesday evenings at 7:30 on zoom. They are reading and discussing “belonging” by bell hooks. This is part personal memoir and part social examination of how the place we live affects us.

There is some interest in having a book group meet on a different night so let us know if that is something that interests you and we can help get that going. No book has been decided on.

Reiki Training

Hello Friends!

My name is Emmy; I am a regular attender at Friends Meeting Cambridge. Some of you might remember, I am working on a ministry and year and a half long project that explores Quaker Practice, Energy Medicine, and Embodied Justice, and is called Embodying the Light; Embodying the Beloved Community. I am messaging again to announce another event, Reiki 2! Could you please put this on calendars and send around if able?

Thank you <3

Below, please find the info and details. I hope to see some of you there!

Details:

As part of my ministry and year and a half long project exploring the crossroads of Quaker Practice, Energy Medicine, and Embodied Justice, which is being supported by several Quaker Grants, I would love those with Reiki 1 certification or higher, who feel led, to join for a Level 2 Reiki Training and Certification Course in the lineage of Usui/Holy Fire III Reiki. This is an advanced course. You will need to already have a Reiki 1 certificate, in any lineage, to take this course. Reiki 2 will bring about a stronger empowerment of the Reiki energy and give the ability to send Reiki over a distance. Reiki is a Japanese term: “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Reiki is an abundant, gentle spiritual energy that is not tied to any specific religion or nationality. Reiki is an energy healing process where the Reiki practitioner is opened up to source and divine energy is able to flow through the practitioner and into themselves or another being (person, animal, plant, etc). It is a gentle healing technique that can do no harm. It has brought about great healing in my physical and energetic body, and has also helped me integrate my intuition into my body. This is a strong tool for embodiment, and I hope you can join us!

If you have any questions regarding accessibility or barriers, including needing childcare, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you for your time and care.

In Love and Light, Emmy
