Friendly Parenting Conversations

Theme for April 19th, 2015 : “Talking to Children about Race and Diversity” with Lynn Clowes, Director of the Cultural Competency Group at the NH Minority Health Coalition

Lynn is a cross cultural educator who has recently produced “Who Am I Going To Be? African Youth Building Lives in NH”, a film about the challenges African youth face as they rebuild their lives in NH (which we will be showing at the Meetinghouse on Friday, May 22nd at 7:00pm).  She will begin a conversation with parents and any others interested in how to help children (and ourselves) live in and create a world that honors and respects everyone.

Below is a list of some of the books that Lynn brought to share.

Theme for February 1st, 2015 : “Conflict Resolution” with Beth Collea, Religious Education and Outreach Coordinator, NEYM

  • Conflict is a normal part of life.
  • We all benefit from awareness of our feelings and a vocabulary to express them.
  • Storybooks make great case studies in conflict resolution.
  • Home is a great place to practice naming our feelings, listening across difference, calming ourselves down in heated moments and brainstorming creative solutions to conflicts.
