Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting

Religious Society of Friends

Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business

Fourth Month 14, 2002

Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered with worship for our regularly scheduled meeting for business 4/14/02.  About a dozen Friends were in attendance.  Rob Spencer, co-clerk, presided.  Those present included Charlotte Debell (A), Lee DeBell (A), David Freeman-Woolpert (M), Julia Freeman-Woolpert (A), Ruth Heath (M), Richard Kleinschmidt (M), Marta Lodoli (A), Jay Smith (M), Sara Menis Smith (A), and Kathy Urie (A).

4.1  Treasurer’s Report:  Our treasurer reported that there are only six weeks remaining in our fiscal year, but we have only raised 50% of our budget commitments.  Either we must make drastic cuts in spending or we must support our budget.

4.2  Religious Education Committee:  The clerk of the Religious Education committee asked us to consider how we supervise children during the period after the end of worship and introductions.  Our young people have had two junior meetings for business to consider guidelines for playground behavior, but adult supervision is still needed.

  • We agreed to add two more positions to our job sign-up list.

4.3  The Adult Education and Community Building committee is planning ahead to our next retreat. The committee is concerned that the facilities cost may rise significantly and asked how much additional cost are families and individuals willing and able to pay.

  • We agreed that if the facilities cost must increase significantly, we should add funds to next year’s budget to subsidize the retreat.

4.4  Proposed Minute:  We considered the wording of a “Proposed Minute of Support for Gay, Lesbian, & Transgendered Seekers.”  Last month we approved the minute in principle (3.4), but held over the wording of the minute.

  • After much deliberation and some revisions, we approved a final version of this minute.  A copy is attached.

We adjourned purposing with divine assistance to meet again next month 05/12/02.
