Dover Quarterly Meeting Minutes

Below are links to the minutes of Dover Quarterly Meeting (DQM) for Worship with attention to Business; the most recent years are at the top.  In Dover Quarterly Meeting Minute 2017.10.2, Friends approved the publishing of the minutes on this website.  To print any webpage (or simplify it for ‘copying and pasting’ into a text editor), click on the “Printer-friendly version” link at the bottom of a page, which will reformat the page for printing.

The full text of printed minutes will be archived on behalf of New England Yearly Meeting in the Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  For further information about NEYM’s archive policies and procedures, please visit https://neym.org/archives.  (NB. On behalf of the Meeting, one of the co-clerks, Mark Barker, of Concord Monthly Meeting of Friends authorized SCUA to archive this website, which they do annually.)

If you have paper copies of missing minutes, you could help to fill in the gaps by scanning them and emailing to WebClerk [at] ConcordFriendsMeeting [dot] org (subject: Dover%20Quarterly%20Meeting) .

The basic process for going from paper copies of the minutes is fairly straightforward.

  • Scan the printed documents, taking care to scan only the actual minute-side of each document.
  • Convert the scanned image to Word text using ABBYY’s FineReader 15 software.
  • Spellcheck the converted Word document.
  • Copy and paste the Word text into a Drupal page with a ‘URL Path Setting’ format of “YYYY-MM-DDDoverQuarterlyMeeting”.  Type any handwritten notes in the original text.
  • Proofread the HTML/CSS version.
  • Tidy up the HTML/CSS, including page-breaks, font-sizes, and other formatting issues.  For the treasurer’s report, this means copying and pasting into a basic table framework, since the conversion process doesn’t handle the underlying table shape well.
  • Anticipate links that readers may wish to follow and insert internal and external hyperlinks to enable them.  Usually this means inserting ‘domain-neutral’ links to both external webpages and on-page, internal links to individual sections of the webpage..
  • Test and verify the links.
  • Publish and ask readers to report conversion mistakes, typographical, spelling errors, etc.

Of course, the original, paper copies with handwriting or images are retained in the DQM ringbinder that will be sent to SCUA.  Recent copies of the Treasurer's Reports are on Google Drive at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TePGzIYqOA7mJmpfg80BtQkyA4CMWL00
