Minutes of Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business

Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting of

the Religious Society of Friends

Third Month 14th, 2010

Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered in Meeting for Worship for Business at the Merrimack Valley Day Care Center in Concord, NH. Friends present were: Mark Barker, Jay Smith, David Woolpert, Lois Booth, Kathie Urie, Thomas Markham, Alisa Barnard (recording clerk), Sara Smith (clerk).

The meeting began with a period of silent worship.

03.1  The meeting reviewed and approved the minutes of the Meeting for Worship for Business of 2nd Month, 2010.

03.2  New Member: The meeting joyfully accepted Kathie Urie as a member of Concord Friends Meeting.

03.3  Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer reported that after checking in with individuals who made pledges for the FY 09-10, she is confident that the meeting will raise $14,000 before the end of the Fiscal Year.  The Treasurer is asked to deliver another report updating the meeting at next month’s business meeting.

03.4  Ministry and Counsel: Ministry and Counsel would like to offer additional opportunities for midweek worship and it asks individuals to share ideas with members of Ministry and Counsel about what would best serve the meeting.

03.5  State of Society Report for 2009: Because of the NEYM Jubilee year, local meetings are not required to submit a State of the Society report; however, Friends considered the possibility of creating a report as an opportunity for the meeting to reflect on the past year and our current spiritual state.  Ministry and Counsel is asked to consider scheduling this conversation for the fourth Sunday in April.

03.6  Nominating Committee: The current Nominating Committee includes Kathy Urie, Kate Daniels and Sarah Smith. The Nominating Committee has nominated Greg Heath to join the Committee.  The meeting approved his appointment with thanks.  The Nominating Committee will report on the composition of a new committee at the next meeting for business.

03.7  Tool Use Agreement: The meeting was asked to consider a minute stating that when we borrow tools from any party we clearly accept the full responsibilities of ownership.  The meeting approved granting the clerk the license to sign Tool Use Agreements as needed.

03.8  Hosting Events in the Meetinghouse in May: It is not clear when the new Meetinghouse will be available and fully functional to host large gatherings.  In light of this, the sense of the meeting is that we should not schedule any events in the new space until further notice.

The possibility was raised that future programs (committee meetings, Quarterly meeting) might include opportunities for visiting Friends to take part in the on-going work at the meetinghouse.
