Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business

Fourth Month 13, 2003

Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered in a regularly called Meeting for Worship for Business on the date above stated at the Merrimack Valley Day Care Center, Concord, NH.  Attenders and Members present were:  Lois Booth (M), Betsy Cazden (M), Alison Ceplikas (A), Recording Clerk Graham Chynoweth (M), David Freeman-Woolpert (M), Claire Gillingham (A), Treasurer Ruth Heath (M), Jeanie Holt (M), Richard Kleinschmidt (M), Jean London (M), Jay Smith (M), Sarah Smith (M), Presiding Co-Clerk Robert Spencer (M), Bevan Tulk (A).

The Meeting opened with prayerful silence.

Minute 2003.1

4.1 NEYM Committee Day. The Presiding Clerk presented a letter from the NEYM Administrative Secretary inquiring about the possibility of Meeting hosting a NEYM Committee Day in 4th day, Tenth Month, 2003.  The annual Concord Friends Meeting overnight retreat is generally scheduled for the end of Ninth Month/beginning of Tenth Month, each year.  The 2003 date has not yet been set.  ACTION.  The Clerk was directed to inform NEYM that until a 2003 Meeting Retreat date is set this Meeting cannot offer to host a 10/04/03 Committee day.  The Meeting agreed to host a future NEYM Committee, possibly in Spring or Summer, 2004.  The Clerk will communicate such to NEYM.  Availability of an appropriate meeting space for Committee Day was discussed.  ACTION.  David Freeman-Woolpert offered, as needed, to find an appropriate Committee Day venue and to identify those in Meeting who would be available to serve as to complete various activities on Committee Day.

4.2  5th Month Meeting for Business Early.  Regular Meeting for Business is set for 05/04/03, rather than 05/11/03 which is Mother’s Day.

4.3  Treasurer’s Report.  The Treasurer reported that with 83% of the year fiscal year passed, 99% of the income budget has been contributed, including previous fiscal year carry forward.

4.4  Disposition of Special CollectionRecording Clerk’s Note: Meeting Member Don Booth had previously informally announced that he would not, as hoped by him, travel to Iraq with an “Iraqi Peace Team.”  See Minute 2002.09.04 and Minute 2002.11.2.  The Treasurer reported that all but one of the contributors of monies specially contributed for Don Booth’s not-to-be taken Iraq trip have agreed that such monies may be contributed to Voices in the Wilderness, the group which would have facilitated his trip. ACTION.  The Meeting approved doing so.

4.5  David and Atassa French Membership.  The Meeting has received a letter Hanover (NH) Monthly Meeting asking to transfer David and Atassa French’s membership to this Meeting.  The Meeting joyfully accepted the transfer.

4.6  2002 State of Society Report.  Jeanie Holt, for Ministry and Council Committee, circulated a revised 2002 State of Society Report.  See Minute 2003.3.4 The Report was accepted as submitted, with appreciation.

4.7  4.7 Welcome Banner in Entry Way.  The Clerk announced that Kathy Urie and the First Day School middle group had designed and completed a large banner stating “Welcome to Concord Friends Meeting.”  The banner is to be placed on the wall opposite the entry doors to the Day Care Center each First Day.  Kathy Urie and the children were thanked for their creative work on the banner.  See Minute 2003.3.1.

Meeting adjourned after a period of silent worship purposing, with Divine assistance, to meet 1st First Day of 5th Month, 2003.
